Kelly Borchardt, Technical Advisor Kelly began her childhood career over 20 years ago as an assistant child care teacher while early earning an elementary eduation degree from UW-Stevens Point.  In addition to working for 15 years with child care programs as an advisor/consultant, she spent time as a cook and lead teacher at several child care programs and worked in child care resource and referral.  Along with her technical advisor role, she is currently the Executive Director of Child Care Resource and Referral of Central Wisconsin in Wisconsin Rapids and occasionally teaches for Mid-State Technical College.  Projects that she has been involved with recently include the development of Supporting Families Together Association, the Strengthening Families Initiative and the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards.  She also serves on the WECA Member Advisory Council.  Kelly feels that one of the most effective ways to improve the lives of children and families is to help educate and support the caregivers and teachers who dedicate their lives to this profession.  It's exciting to see the changes in the early childhood field as more focus is put on the importance of high quality early care and education.

Renee Ernsting, Technical Advisor - Renee Ernsting earned a Child Development Bachelor’s Degree from UW Stout and has worked in the early education and care field for 18 years.  Renee initially began as lead teacher at the West Campus Preschool in Madison.  She arranged her classroom environment to meet NAEYC Accreditation standards and was then motivated to become a Child Development Associate (CDA) advisor.  Renee directed a non-profit group center and eventually opened a licensed family day care center so she could remain working at home with her own children.  Renee joined the Child Care Partnership Resource & Referral Center team in Eau Claire that is now affiliated with the Supporting Families Together Association.  She was hired as a Quality Improvement Specialist and was promoted to Co-director a few years ago.  Renee is validated as a North Carolina Early Childhood Environmental Scale rater and has conducted over 300 observations in family and group programs during her tenure. Renee has a keen interest in positive outcomes for children and is delighted every time she sees early childhood teachers create an age-appropriate play centered environment.  She believes that educating the professionals who dedicate their lives to teaching and caregiving will ensure that children become successful contributing adults.

Toni Kutner, Technical Advisor  - My name is Toni Kutner and I have been working in the early childhood field for over twenty years. My experiences have been both challenging and rewarding. As a preschool teacher I helped children to build skills and discover their potential as life long learners. I have served as a mentor to child care providers as they implement quality practices into their programs. As an academic instructor I have taught classes in the early childhood bachelor program at UW Milwaukee and Whitewater campuses. I also teach at Carroll University and Waukesha Area Technical Colleges in their early childhood programs as well. As a college supervisor and cooperating teacher I have worked closely with students in the education field to help prepare them for licensure. I have a bachelor of Science degree from Alverno College in Early Childhood and Elementary Education and a Master of Science degree in Curriculum and Instruction from UW Milwaukee. When I am not teaching or mentoring prospective child care providers I am spending time with my grandson Thomas, which allows me to keep myself grounded in what is really important, children.

Peggy McMahon, Technical Advisor Peggy lives in Ladysmith and works in northern Wisconsin.  She has a BS in Early Childhood Education from UW-Stout and 30 years of experience in early care and education, working with SFTA since 1992.  Peggy began her career as the Director of Tender Loving Care Child Care Center in Oshkosh, WI.  She spent a year working as a Five Year old teacher at Hartford Community Child Care before moving north.  Peggy has been a Kindergarten teacher and was the Director of Tender Learning Center in Ladysmith for 10 years before beginning her work with WCCIP.  She currently works with group and family child care providers, assisting in the start-up/licensing process in 10 Northern Region counties. Mary Schott, Technical Advisor - I have had a diverse range of experiences in the early childhood field over the past 30 years, many that I will always treasure.  I graduated from the University of Stevens Points with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and a Minor in Home Economics and Nutrition.  I started out in the public schools system teaching in a long term substitute position, in a pre-kindergarten special needs classroom at Johnson Creek School District.   I then moved to Seattle, where I worked with 4 year old children  at Small Faces Child Development Center.  I then returned to Wisconsin, to be the director of Watertown Community Child Care Center and Preschool.   I ran that program for 14 years.  For the past 13 years, I have worked for Community Coordinated Child Care, as a nutrition specialist in The Child And Adult Care Food Program.  I have worked with Family Day Providers in Dodge, Jefferson, Columbia and Dane Counties.  I was also very fortunate to collaborate with Watertown Public School District in writing and overseeing the Jefferson County Child Care Initiative Grant for 4 years.  This position allowed me to run a child care provider/teacher network, a director’s network in Jefferson County, and to offer many trainings such as; SIDs, Shaken Baby, Nutrition and Child Care related topics.  I helped organize and start one of the first community wide,“ Children’s Day Fairs”, in Watertown.  This was another collaborating effort with Chris Enockson from Watertown School District.  I served on the Watertown Early Childhood Advisory Committee and a Four Year Old Kindergarten Committee for several years.   I also had the opportunity to host Provider Appreciation Events in both Jefferson and Dodge County.
