NAEYC’s website has a listing of the proposed Teacher Qualifications and Ratios for the new system of Accreditation. It states a timeline for Teacher Qualifications to be complete. All lead teachers need to have a minimum of an Associates Degree or equivalent with at least 75% of lead teachers having a Baccalaureate Degree by 2020. Equivalence is defined as a Baccalaureate’s Degree in any discipline with a minimum of 36 college credits in CD/ECE/ECSE. Staff/Child ratios are somewhat similar to past ratios expected by NAEYC; they now, however, break down ages more precisely by months. If you are interested in viewing these proposed criteria go to www.naeyc.org and follow the instructions to get to the proposed criteria.
